The stressors foster girls face in their youth have harmful effects on the regulatory system, leading to increase problematic behavior as the age. This often corresponds with long-term implications for psychological and health vulnerabilities. Research shows that these effects tend to endure. As adults, they tend to have greater difficulties with psychosocial integration, chronic health problems, and risk suffering from poverty, not graduating from high school, unemployment, homelessness, incarceration, early pregnancy, and being further victimized by human traffickers.
