This is what you might see if you come to NextGen for a dating ultrasound in early pregnancy (6-8 weeks). At this time, the baby is the size of a grain of rice. The first structures you see are the gestational sac and yolk sac, about a week later you will see the embryo (we call it the “fetal pole” because that’s really what it looks like) and the heartbeat. At this time we measure the baby which is called the CRL or crown rump length.
